Old Vine Red Lot #40
Appellation:
California
Winemaker: Chris Bilbro
Released: June 1, 2006
Over the past 28 years, we have made 41 different
Lots of Old Vine Red. During this time, we have developed
quite a reputation for, amongst other things, a very
high level of consistency. There are always subtle
changes between Lots but overall, the flavor profile
is very similar.
Old Vine Red, in general, is a proprietary red
wine that is round, smooth, somewhat “Zinfandel-like,”
and noted for its balance, approachability, and consistency.
It is primarily comprised of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah
and Carignane as well as smaller amounts of Cabernet
and Syrah. Various Italian varietals round out the
blend.
Old Vine Red Lot 40, in particular, exemplifies
a perfect marriage of approachability and complexity.
The core of Zinfandel fruit is as apparent and inviting
as always, while additions of Cabernet, Syrah, and
Italian varietals add noticeably complex aromas and
flavors both aromatically and on the palate.
Color: Dark ruby purple
Aroma: Ripe blackberries, earthy
spice, black pepper, cassis, and subtle hints of
oak.
Palate: Dense, lush, round, and
mouth filling with thick fruit flavors.
Aging: Best within 1-3 years.
